TOURISM 2017

2107 is the International Year of Sustainable tourism for development and in line with this, there have been numerous seminars that discussed about the importance of this year's theme. This year, tourism all over the world focuses on sustainability. But first, what is sustainable tourism? Sustainable tourism as defined by UNWTO is "tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities."

Sustainable tourism promotes preserve, sustain and respect. Sustainable tourism should make optimal use of environmental resources in the destination, respect the socio-cultural authenticity of host communities and ensure viable, long term economic operations.

Promoting sustainable tourism in a destination will not be possible without the cooperation between the NGO, LGU, locals and tourists. Sustainability must be known to all, especially to the tourists because they play a big part on tourism.

FEMINIST MOVEMENT

Women suffrage were well known in the early 19th century and it is defined as women's right to vote, it is one way for women to gain a voice in that time where they were still being considered as child-bearers and homemakers only. In 1903, with the Association of Ilonga Feminists by Pura Villanueva Kalaw raised the call for women's suffrage until 1928, where American suffragettes Mrs. Carie Chapman Catt and Aleta Jacobs organized an association focused on civic works, the campaign between two American suffragettes together with local women was regularized by the National League of Filipino Women and the Women’s Citizen’s League. Not until 1937 where women in the Philippines have fully exercised their right to vote. In comparison to the 1st wave in the feminist movement that happened in 19th to early 20th century, suffragettes in UK and in US were still fighting for their rights to vote.
